YWCA Charleston hosts Community Conversations with Christy Martin –  World Renowned Boxer, Domestic Violence Survivor, and Native West Virginian (Community Conversations)

Born in Mullens, West Virginia, Christy Martin shattered barriers as one of the first women to bring professional women’s boxing into the national spotlight. Known as “The Coal Miner’s Daughter,” Martin became a world champion and the first female boxer to headline a major pay-perview event, opening doors for generations of women in the sport. But her most powerful fight happened outside the ring. After surviving years of domestic abuse and a near-fatal attack in 2010, Martin rebuilt her life and has become a nationally recognized advocate for survivors of domestic violence. Today, she uses her voice to inspire others to seek safety, find hope, and reclaim their futures.
